Ingredients

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree canned or homemade
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder

Method

Prepare the Oven and Pan
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
Mix Wet Ingredients
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine pumpkin puree, applesauce, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
Combine Dry Ingredients
  1. In another bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cocoa powder.
Combine Mixtures
  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
Create Marble Effect
  1. Divide the batter in half. To one half, add the cocoa powder and mix well. Alternate spooning the pumpkin and chocolate batters into the prepared pan, then swirl with a knife to create a marble effect.
Bake the Cake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
  1. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
