  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice long-grain preferred
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Sauce Ingredients
  • 1 can diced tomatoes 14.5 oz
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar optional
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Method
 

Prepare the Meatballs
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, uncooked rice, beaten egg, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
Cook the Meatballs
  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the meatballs. Brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
Prepare the Sauce
  1. In a saucepan, combine diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, and Italian seasoning. Bring to a simmer.
Combine and Simmer
  1. Pour the sauce over the browned meatballs in the skillet. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, until the rice is cooked through.
