Ingredients

Fish and Batter
  • 4 fillets cod fish skinless and boneless
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for coating
  • 1 cup buttermilk for soaking
  • 1 cup cornstarch for extra crispiness
  • 1 teaspoon paprika for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
Sandwich Assembly
  • 4 buns burger buns toasted
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce for topping
  • 1/2 cup tartar sauce for spreading
  • 1 lemon lemon wedges for garnish

Method

Prepare the Fish
  1. Soak the cod fillets in buttermilk for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Fry the Fish
  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove cod from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture.
  3. Carefully place the coated fillets in the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove the fish from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Assemble the Sandwich
  1. Spread tartar sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
  2. Place a crispy cod fillet on each bun, top with shredded lettuce, and cover with the top half of the bun.
  3. Serve with lemon wedges on the side.
