  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups finely chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternating with sour cream until just combined.
  6. Fold in chopped apples and nuts until evenly distributed.
  7. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  8. Bake for approximately 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
