  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a mixing bowl; let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil; stir until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 90 minutes).
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into six portions; shape each into mini baguettes and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Cover again and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Optionally brush with egg wash before baking.
  8. Bake for about 18 minutes until golden brown.
