Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/8 cup brown sugar
  • 1/8 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
  • 2/3 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and add diced apples. Cook for about 5 minutes until slightly softened.
  2. Stir in brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and salt; cook until the mixture thickens but apples remain intact.
  3. Roll out puff pastry sheets into squares and cut each into four equal pieces.
  4. Place 1-2 tablespoons of cooled apple filling in the center of each square. Brush edges with egg wash made from beaten egg and milk before folding into triangles.
  5. Seal edges firmly and make small slits on top for steam escape.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Mix powdered sugar with milk for glaze; drizzle over warm turnovers before serving.
