Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
  • 51/2 cups bread flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water and optional powdered ginger in a small bowl. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together warm milk and sugar until dissolved. Add activated yeast mixture and oil; mix until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, combine bread flour and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients while stirring to prevent lumps.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough, divide into two loaves, shape them, place in greased pans, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake loaves for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Brush with melted butter after baking and cool completely before slicing.
